Service Learning is a signature program offered throughout the Maricopa Community College District for students to engage in rewarding hands-on learning experiences. At Scottsdale Community College (SCC), we built Service Learning to benefit not just students and the community, but also our employees.
Through the Office of Student Experience and Leadership, the SCC Service Learning Program has continued to evolve into a lively community making a tangible difference in our world. With over 3,000 hours of service, the contributions of the participants have equaled more than $80,000 worth of value to the community. A high turnout that we believe can be made higher.
Pursuing our goal of increasing our impact to society and expanding our community of dedicated volunteers, the SCC Service Learning Program has launched a website to reach a larger network of students and employees that are interested in making a difference.
The SCC Service Learning Program Website will act as a gateway for our goal, connecting us with students and employees outside of SCC’s physical campus, offering them a way to conveniently access our free programs and be able to register for events that supplement with their online class studies and their interests. We are also offering events the general public can participate in each semester to truly cater to a wider community.
In addition to events in partnership with the college and various non-profit organizations, the SCC Service Learning Program has partnered with faculty to provide students with the opportunity to embark on a semester-long service-based learning experience that allows them to further enhance their skills in their career field.
